The Preflight Problem
Launch a campaign without checking, and it fails silently for days.
- Landing page doesn't match ad copy (message mismatch kills conversions)
- Tracking pixel doesn't fire (you get zero attribution data)
- Budget cap too low (campaign runs out of money mid-day)
- Targeting too narrow (zero impressions)
- Ad copy exceeds platform limits (gets rejected)
- Conversion pixel doesn't exist yet (you launched before setup)
By the time you notice, you've wasted 3 days and a few hundred dollars on nothing.
Expert media buyers run a preflight before every launch. They catch these failures in minutes.
The 10-Point Preflight Checklist
1. Message Match
Does the landing page headline match the ad headline? Do the pain points in the ad copy match the page content? Mismatch = 60% CTR drop.
2. Tracking Pixels Installed
Open the landing page. Check browser console. Do you see the Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag firing? If not, you get zero conversion data.
3. Conversion Event Configured
In Google Ads / Meta Ads Manager, does the conversion event already exist? Or are you launching before the pixel fires? Always verify in the platform first.
4. Budget Pacing
Daily budget is set correctly? Account budget supports all active campaigns? One overflowing campaign strangles the rest.
5. Targeting Reach
In Google/Meta/LinkedIn, does the platform show estimated reach? If reach is zero or less than 1K daily, targeting is too narrow. Widen it before launch.
6. Ad Copy Length
Google headline max 30 chars. Meta primary text truncates around 125 characters in most placements. LinkedIn headline max 70 chars. Over a hard limit, the field won't save; past a truncation point, your message gets cut off mid-sentence.
7. Landing Page Speed
Page load time under 3 seconds? Test on mobile with a slow connection. Google penalizes slow pages. High bounce rate = high cost-per-click.
8. Form Fields
How many form fields? Each field = 25% drop in completion rate. If you have 4 fields, only 32% of visitors complete it. Can you reduce to 2?
9. UTM Parameters
Is utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign set correctly? Analytics needs this to attribute traffic. Missing UTMs = orphaned traffic in your analytics.
10. Platform-Specific Policies
Google has restricted categories. Meta has disallowed claims. LinkedIn skews B2B, so B2C campaigns rarely get efficient CPMs there. Did your copy violate anything? Check platform ad policies before launch.
Who Skips This and Pays For It
Startups skip preflight. They think speed matters more than correctness. Launch Monday, spend $1000, realize Tuesday the pixel doesn't work, waste the whole week.
Expert teams spend 30 minutes on preflight and save days of debugging.
How Autonomous Teams Automate Preflight
Manual teams run this checklist by hand. Autonomous agents run preflight automatically.
Before a campaign launches, the agent:
- Fetches the landing page and checks message match
- Inspects pixels in the browser console
- Validates conversion events in the platform
- Checks reach estimates
- Validates ad copy length
- Tests page speed on mobile
- Verifies UTM parameters
- Checks policy compliance
If anything fails, the agent stops the launch and alerts you. You fix it. Launch happens only when everything passes.
Launch Confidently
Use this checklist. Or let an autonomous agent run it for you before every campaign launch.
